27.01.08 - More Astoria pictures added

Pretty self explanatory really, another, and possibly the last batch of pictures from last years sell out gig at the London Astoria, top view simply click here.

Also you'll have hopefully noticed that we've added a news archive to this page, top right hand corned which we'll be updating on a regular basis!

22.01.08 - Vote for the type of site you'd like to see Hawkfest  2008 take place on private or public?

We've launched a poll on our forum asking the following question -

Would you prefer to have Hawkfest on a commercial premises like the 2007 festival, with many facilities, but more rules etc? Or woud you prefer to have it on a non commercial site like the first Hawkfest in Devon. A beautiful site with less facilities?

If you're a forum member you can cast your vote straight away by clicking here and signing in, alternatively why not join up, it only takes a couple of minutes.

However if neither of the above appeals then drop us an e-mail here with the content of the message either reading Private or Public and these votes will also be taken into consideration.

Thanks in advance and we hope to be able to give you more news shortly.

17.01.08 - Support the Sea Shepherd campaign

16.01.08 -  Announcement regarding Magna DVD and Trading rules and taping policy posted

Firstly an official statement regarding the status of the Magna DVD -

It is with much regret that we have to let you know, that due to objections by Alan Davey, the Magna DVD project has had to be put on hold. We cannot send out anymore DVDs until the situation is resolved. Needless to say we are working tirelessly behind the scenes in order to get the DVDs promised by the band, (including Alan), out to the passport holders concerned as soon as possible. Please accept our heartfelt apologies, we do not like letting folk down in this way, but unfortunately it is completely out of our control.

However to lighten the mood slightly -

We've been promising this since the taping ban was lifted before Christmas, well here it is, just click here to view. For everyone's sake please read this and make sure you understand it fully before openly offering items for trade, but above all else thanks for respecting this policy.

10.01.08

Well we hope Hawkfans the worlds over have recovered from the excesses of Christmas and the New Year and here at mission control the engines are once again winding up to maximum RPM, well put another way there's plenty going on behind the scenes, so while we busy ourselves here are some more Astoria pictures for your enjoyment, simply click here.

01.01.08 - Astoria soundcheck pictures posted

These will be allocated on a first come first served basis, but if you want to ensure you get a ticket, we are accepting pre-registration from today.

Name:
Address:
Hawkwind Passport Number:
Contact telephone number:
Email address:
Number of tickets required:

Individual day tickets are NOT available. Hawkwind passport holders can buy tickets for their friends and family, these are called 'visa tickets'. Visa ticket holders must arrive with the registered Hawkwind passport holder. HW Passports can be requested when you order your tickets.
There will be NO tickets available on the gate.

We'll be keeping you updated of developments as and when they happen….Also lookout for a very exciting competition we'll be launching in conjunction with this years event.

Best wishes…..The Hawkfest team.

14.02.08 - European Festival Date Added

We're pleased to confirm that we'll be appearing on the Saturday night at this years - Colours Of Ostrava Festival, in the Czech republic, details are sketchy at the moment but visit the events web site regularly for updates.

Any British fans who fancy making the trip may be interested to know that Ostrava does have it's own airport, although this is not served directly from the UK there are regular flights to and from Prague which is, however a more cost effective solution would probably be to fly to Poland, preferably Katowice and hire a car to take you the 70 or so miles to the festival.

07.02.08 - Hawkfest update

After our meeting at the weekend, we are mostly agreed that we have to get back to the original Hawkfest ethos.....A family friendly environment with all sorts of different stuff going on. A festival of arts, music, dance, theatre, circus etc.
We are really going to try and get back to quality, not quantity, this year.

Yes, we will have excellent bands, but we will have a whole lot more other stuff going on.

It looks like being the 25-28 July, but until we are sure we can get all the facilities we need on this date (hopefully later this week), we cannot say for certain.

We have to do a costing too. Hawkfest has never been a profit making festival, but we have to make sure that we do not get badly into debt either. As we have no intentions of increasing the limit on the number of people attending, we have no way of increasing our income either.

If we hold it on the non commercial site that we have in mind, most likely in a beautiful part of Devon, we have the extra cost of bringing in toilets, water, showers, electric, fencing, a cosy warm place for people to gather if the weather is bad, a whole second venue and stage etc etc.....so really our costs double, but our income stays the same......that is our problem. We are doing the math at the moment and hopefully if we are not going to lose too much, we will be able to go ahead......watch this space ........Thanks for your patience.

The festival is set on a wonderful Greenfield site, with lots of trees and views over the beautiful Devonshire countryside, near Honiton in East Devon, which has full rail and bus links to the rest of the country. The nearest airport is Exeter whose main airline Flybe, has flights from all over UK and Europe. A detailed map with directions and a list of the nearest hotels and bed and breakfast establishments, for those of you who don't fancy camping, will be sent out with tickets.

Camping will be available on the site and we have brought in luxury toilet facilities and a disabled toilet provision.

There will be a couple of bars, including a lounge bar, with a selection of beers, cider, real ales, wines, spirits, soft drinks etc, a sit down café and a variety of food outlets….We even have a village store for all of your essentials.

20.07.08 - Hawkfest Line Up news

Anyone who is coming to Hawkfest needs to visit the Microsite that can be found by clicking here

Just done a major update on this to give a full running order over the 3 days.

There is also the facility to download daily and 3 day schedules that you can print off and keep with you so you don't miss any of the action (the 3 day one you may have to juggle with a bit in Word or something similar but it will fit on a side of A4).

Obviously there is the chance that minor changes will have to be made but these will be publicised at the time.

I wouldn't think this is the last you'll hear from myself or Hawkwind over the next few days but for now it's a case of all
systems go and see you their!

15.08.08 - Press release regarding back catalogue

Cherry Red records and their imprint Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the acquisition of the entire HAWKWIND catalogue released between 1976 and 1997. The deal brings every Hawkwind album from “Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music” to “Distant Horizon”, together with all singles, EP’s and associated master tapes to the Cherry Red group who now hold full exclusive rights on these recordings for the world. The acquisition, undertaken with the full agreement of all past and present members of Hawkwind who appear on the recordings, also sees the launch of a new Cherry Red label, Atomhenge, upon which the catalogue will be reissued in full over the next eighteen months. Atomhenge will be managed by the team behind Cherry Red’s Esoteric Recordings imprint.

Atomhenge label manager Mark Powell said; “The acquisition of the majority of Hawkwind’s catalogue by Cherry Red is an exciting development. Hawkwind are arguably one of the most important and enduring British bands and their musical heritage is of considerable importance in terms of the history of British rock. The band has been cited as an influence by successive generations of musicians and to be given the chance to present Hawkwind’s recorded work in the manner it deserves is a privilege”. Among the albums brought to the label as part of the deal are many classic albums such as “Quark, Strangeness and Charm”, “25 Years On”, “Live Seventy Nine”, “Levitation”, “Sonic Attack”, “Choose Your Masques”, “Chronicle of the Black Sword” through to more recent works such as “Alien 4”, “Love in Space” and “Distant Horizon”. All of these albums will be released as expanded remastered editions on the Atomhenge label over the next eighteen months and will include previously unreleased bonus material as all the associated master tapes form part of this acquisition. Cherry Red managing director, Adam Velasco added; “Most of this material has been unavailable officially on CD for a number of years and it is our intention to make the forthcoming releases definitive editions in terms of audio remastering (from the original master tapes), content and packaging”. To begin the Hawkwind catalogue campaign, Atomhenge will be releasing two newly remastered 3CD anthologies compiled from albums and singles covering the periods 1976 to 1984 and 1985 to 1997 on November 3rd 2008 as a precursor to the reissuing of the Hawkwind catalogue which will commence in stages at the beginning of 2009. Hawkwind’s Dave Brock commented; “I think it’s great that all of these records are to be made available again.....it’s another chance to hear the contributions made by various members over the years”. A further announcement about plans for the catalogue will follow in September when the anthology series track listings will be finalised.

24.12.08 - A final message for the year (honest) regarding 2009 tour dates

Well it turns out that the last message was a lie, 'cause here's another one, check out the Tour Dates page as this contains the definative list of dates that the band have announced so far for next year, there was a slight confusion by some folks and we just wanted to put the record straight

Ok happy Christmas and see you all in 2009 :-)

21.12.08 - A final message for the year

First off, apologies for things being so quiet on the web site recently, a combination of much needed holidays and the recent tour meant that all things cyber space had to take a bit of a back seat, however rest assured that once the festive season is out of the way it'll be all systems go once again.

Anyway the real purpose of this message is to thank all of our fans for all the support you have shown over the last year, I'm sure few of you will disagree that it's had it's fair share of highs, Hawkfest and the recent tour being 2 that spring to mind, but also the low's, none more so than the passing of our dear friend Jason. We'll be closing the  memorial fund shortly so we can move on to the next stage of this project which is actually ordering the stone and having it installed, we'll keep you advised on developments but if you do wish to make a donation then please get it to us as soon as possible

Although Jason was much missed on the recent tour it was great to see so many of you attending the gigs and from the feedback we've received you really enjoyed the shows, your support does make these things easier!

Anyhow for now we'd like to wish all our fans a happy and peaceful Christmas and new year and we'll see you in 2009.
