It's no secret that Dave is a fan of the beautiful game, Football for the uninitiated, . What however is less well known is that like a lot of other soccer loving rock star's (Iron Maiden, Def Leppard and the old codger himself Rod Stewart) he also has his own team! Hawkwind F.C was formed a number of years ago as a way for Dave to relax between gigs on those grueling UK tours that the band undertook for many years. Whilst being a pretty nifty center forward (see next paragraph for more details) it has to be said that the captain's tactical awareness in his role as the teams manager left something to be desired. Building from the back he employed the services of the "giant" Huw Lloyd Langton in goal with a central defensive partnership of Alan "the assassin" Davey and Richard "bite yer ankles" Chadwick as you can see height was not a strong point. In front of these he used the midfield general that is Simon House, whom Dave once (only once mind!) described as

"with the exception of Roy Keane, probably the most feared central midfielder in the country,"

Meanwhile up front Dave was partnered by a number of individuals including Nik Turner, Dave Anderson and the late Bob Calvert amongst others and it is said with some confidence that the front line never really gelled as a unit.

What is even less well known is the fact that Newcastle numbero uno striker Alan Shearer is not only one of the countries most prolific goalscoreres but also a massive Hawkwind fan to boot, as he fondly remembers

"wiy aye lad, I remember as a wee bairn going to the Newcastle city hall to see the Hawks play, but one of my proudest moments was when Dave's Hawkwind F.C took on my under 8's team at the local youth club, we smashed em 8-1 mind, they were cr*p!, right bunch of short ar*es in defence, but what always sticks with me to this day was their consolation goal scored by the canny lad Brock and the way he celebrated it!, It's the same celebration that I use too this day"

Pictured below are the only two pictures known to be in existance, although who knows, there could be more!
