Time I
feel for some more pictures so it's back to the fantastic collection donated by Gavin
Wilson for some more gems, again I'm pretty sure many of you will not have seen them
before, so sit back and enjoy a brief three date tour with everybody's favourite Sonic
Assassins!
Lets start this little journey in the South West of
England, Bristol to be precise, the Studio is the venue and the date 11/09/88 |

A couple of shots of our beloved leader hard at work on
keys and guitar respectively. Take note Dave, I think I speak for a lot of the fans when I
say that we do like it when you come out from behind your banks of technology and just
strap on your axe and give it a good thrash, oh and it give us a chance to see how wild
your sideburns are! |

When you think about it, it's only with the
arrival of Richard Chadwick that Hawkwind really had a permanent drummer again. Since the
sporadic departures of Simon King the stool was primarily put in the hands of assorted
session men and associates. On this occasion the second description would be more apt as
it's long time hawk mates Dumpy's Rusty Nuts stickman Mick Kirton doing the honours,
that's him behind Alan as well as the subject of the picture below. Now hopefully someone
can help me out with this picture on the right, would I be right in thinking that's future
front man and bassist Ron Tree making an early appearance with the band?
If you know, as ever

From Bristol we're moving in a southerly direction to the
small Dorset village of Bridport for a low key gig the band played at a venue called the
Beehive, it's 1986 or to be more exact the 4th April..
Having done a little detective work I've discovered that the Beehive was basically the
clubhouse for the local football club Bridport FC, rumours that reason the band played
this gig was because Dave was "casing the joint" before planning a Roman
Abramovich style take over of the club, albeit on a much reduced budget can be neither
confirmed or denied! |

And for the final part of this mini tour of the British
isles we'll head north to the Derbyshire town of Malvern with the Winter gardens being our
port of call this time on the 1st December 1986, so that'll be part of the (what was at
the time) the annual winter tour, judging by the way Huw's concentrating he's another one
who can't fathom out Starfarer's guitar tab page ;-) |
