For
obvious reasons I've entitled this little selection
"Black and White Beauties"
Some of these are not even that rare but why I've chosen to include them is for the
quality of the pictures themselves as many have been scanned from either high quality
copies or in some cases actual prints.
It goes without saying who we need to thank for this latest collection!
Dave, ready for action |
Unknown to many Hawkfans, back in the 70's Lemmy appeared in a number of ads for a well known femine hygiene product as we can see from the picture above |
I'm probably behind the times here (I usually am!) but it occurred to me whilst scanning these couple of images that they are clearly United Artists promo shots, but if I'm not mistaken this line up only recorded once the band had left that label to go to Charisma, so ones to assume that UA still had faith in the band to the bitter end. |

Judging by the Flock wallpaper this shot was taken at the Bengal Utopia Indian Restaurant where the band played an inpromptu gig after Nik realised he'd come out without his wallet, so they had to literally sing for their supper |
Nik in more trouble as he tries to find out how to put the batteries in this light for his push bike. Always a law abiding citizen, Mr Turner was worried he'd fall foul of the boys in blue for having inadequate lighting for his journey home from the gig that night! |
"I
told you Nik riding at Night without adequate lighting is not clever" |
Being serious for a moment, if that's possible with captions that so far have included references to feminine hygiene, Indian restaurants and the dangers of cycling in the dark, I think this is a classic shot of Dave, I don't know what it is but just catches him perfectly. |
A couple of shots from the early 70's, for those whom are interested (!) the sticker on the side of Del's synth reads "CAMEMBERT ELECTRONIQUES" which I'd imagine has some relation to Gong! |
|
A late addition this one, and from a different source, it's thanks to Rob Dreamworker for supplying it to me, he got it from Alan Last, who in turn acquired it from one time Hawks bassist Adrian Shaw, anyway it features Adrian at the front, talking to Bob Calvert and apparently that's Simon King behind (Although I think it could be Stacia!). It dates from the Space Ritual era of the early 70's when Mr Shaw was a member of Magic Muscle who were the Hawks support on that tour, anyway nice one fellas and thanks for your assistance. |

And finally, as they say at the end of the news, someone who more than most is responsible for keeping the motors of the good ship Hawkwind running smoothly as the years pass by, it's Kris Tait with that "Oh f**k, what's happened now" look on her face! |
